Life happens. We can’t stop it from happening, be it good or bad. Sometimes, life can get a little messy and it isn’t always clear how to clean up that mess. In today’s post we are going to talk about common carpet stains and how you can remove them.
When the kiddos get artistic, it can lead to problems with your floors. Paint stains, marks from pencils or markers, and that glitter that never seems to go completely away really takes its toll on upholstery and carpet. To remove ink stains, you’ll just need a couple of common household items. First, take a clean cloth and dampen it with a high percentage isopropyl alcohol. Dab at the ink stain with the cloth. Do not scrub or rub the spot, because that will just spread the ink around and make a bigger stain. Let it sit for five minutes and then vacuum up any of the extra moisture with a liquid-safe vacuum. You may need to repeat this process several times, but once you are happy with it, blot with water and vacuum one last time. To remove water-based paint that is still wet, blot carefully with a paper towel. If the water-based paint is already dry, mix a tablespoon of dish soap into a cup of warm water and apply a little to the paint. Allow the mix to soften the paint while using something to pull up the paint.
Pets. You’ve got to love them, but our furry friends can be a messy sometimes. Dogs can track mud in after a walk on a rainy day or bring in dirty sticks or tennis balls just trying to play fetch. Cats bring in dirt that gets stuck to the fur on their feet or after rolling around in the sand. And let’s not forget about the occasional accident. All of those things can wreak havoc on your carpet, rugs, and upholstery. The first step to removing pet stains caused by dirt might sound counterintuitive, but it is important. The mud needs to dry all the way first. Once dry, vacuum over the stain slowly. Make several slow passes over the stain, and remember, the more you can remove with the vacuum, the better. Then take a teaspoon of dish soap, like Dawn, into one cup of warm water. Blot the water-soap mixture with a clean cloth until the stain is gone. Then, clean with a fresh cloth or paper towel. To remove stains and odors caused by pet accidents, mix one fourth of a cup of vinegar into a quart of warm water. Spray the mix on the stain, and blot with a clean cloth after letting it sit for several minutes.
While all of the above methods work on minor spots and stains, sometimes it is best to leave things up to the professionals. If you are looking for the best carpet cleaning Destin or the Niceville area has to offer, look no further than Chem-Dry. Chem-Dry uses a hot carbonated extraction process, which is significantly drier than the traditional steam cleaning process used by standard carpet cleaning companies. This process allows you to get back to your home and everyday life quicker, usually in about 4 to 6 hours; much faster than the 1 to 2 days needed for traditional steam cleaning to dry!
